Description
One of the very best roses for year round interest is R. nitida with shiny green foliage that makes a great foil the silky pink blossoms and for the very round red hips when they first appear in the fall. The medium sized hips have a little ‘eye’ at the blossom end that makes them uniquely perky. The hips punctuate the brilliant yellows, oranges, and reds of the fall foliage and remain on the bare red twigs through most of the winter. R. nitida is a wonderful, wonderful plant that stays low and suckers agreeably. Discovered in 1807.
