Description
This is the darkest violet climber I know of. In full bloom it is stunning. I like the sturdiness of the deep purple color, rather like a child’s crayon. The buds open dark rose-crimson, change to deep purple, then to violet, then to slate blue.It puts on quite a show for several weeks with the range of colors all present at once. As a young plant, for the first couple of years, it often shows only the first rose pink color and I am frequently queried by skeptical customers who think they have the wrong rose.
Bred before 1876.
