Description
The popularity of Belle de Crecy is due to the amazing color changes the bloom goes through upon opening its crimson bud. The range in somewhat of a sequence is cerise, dark pink, magenta, lilac, and mauve that gradually becomes almost gray just before petal drop. The changes start with the outer petals so there is always an attractive contract with the center. The whole is quartered with small petals tucked around a green eye. The thorns are bristle like. The plant suckers, but can be easily controlled.
Introduced in 1829.
